British Bird Tours

Phil Palmer is able to organise custom-made Birdwatching and Photography Tours for overseas visitors to the UK.

This is usually undertaken for groups visiting from the USA or Canada, wishing to extend their Bird Holidays tour with a stopover in the UK.

BRITAIN and its BIRDS

Positioned at the northwest corner of Europe, Britain is ideally situated for birders wishing to indulge in some excellent birdwatching, with the prospects of seeing a high proportion of Europe's finest birds, in comfort and safety.

Britain's strategic position on the east Atlantic migration flyway has allowed over 565 species to reach its shores. The British coast arguably provides the most accessible and varied seabird watching in Europe. From towering cliffs, thronging with breeding auks, gulls, terns and cormorants, to extensive lagoons and mudflats, that provides some of the most impressive assemblies of shorebirds in the Western Palearctic.

You may also wish to visit the British Birdwatching Fair at Rutland. A three day event, the largest of its kind in the world. We can take you to the best sites that Britain has to offer. Below is a sample of some of the places that we visit.

Gannets on Bass Rock, Scotland, we arrange special boat trips to see the birds at their most famous breeding site, one of the greatest spectacles on earth.

BASS ROCK - Possibly the most exhilarating experience any birder can have, is to sit among the Gannets on this volcanic stack. By taking a boat to the island from which the Gannet derives its Latin name Morus bassanus, we will cruise around the base, before landing (if conditions allow) and walking among the thousands of birds that find their home here. Lesser Black-backed, Herring and Great Black-backed Gulls also nest, on the offshore islands, while Black-headed Gulls and Eider Duck are common along the shoreline.

It is a truly amazing experience to be surrounded by the inhabitants of this very special seabird city. Other seabirds are prolific in the area and a variety of wildfowl and shorebirds can be encountered in the Firth of Forth. Breeders include Oystercatcher, Redshank, Curlew and Ringed Plover, while migrating Dunlin, Sanderling, Turnstone, Knot, Grey Plover, Little Stint and Ruff, stop-over at various times.

Grey Seal, bull, Lincolnshire - although common around the coast, most colonies are inaccessible. Our leaders can take you to the best sites to take photographs.

If any of our tours interest you, please feel free to email us discuss them and check on availability. If you wish, we will hold space for you and send you our brochure, which includes a booking form that you will need to complete if you decide to go ahead.
